GRITEK was established in June 2001 with a registered capital of approximately RMB 1 billion 247 million. GRITEK is a high-tech enterprise with many industry qualifications such as the National Enterprise Technology Center, the National Technology Innovation Demonstration Enterprise, and the National Engineering Research Center for Integrated circuit Key Materials(formerly the National Engineering Research Center for Semiconductor Materials). GRITEK was formerly known as Room 401 of China GRINM Group Corporation Limited (formerly the General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals), which began its research on silicon materials in the 1950s. After more than half a century of work, it has accumulated rich core technology and production experience in research and development of silicon materials. Over that period, it has also trained a group of talent in the areas of scientific and technological innovation and management.

At present, GRITEK is mainly engaged in the research, development, production and operation of silicon and other semiconductor materials and equipment. It also provides related technology development, technology transfer and technical consulting services. There are two domestic first-class semiconductor silicon production bases in Dezhou and Shunyi, which are located in Shandong and Beijing, respectively. The main products include silicon single crystals and silicon wafers for IC, large-diameter silicon single crystals and products for the IC etching process, and FZ silicon crystals and silicon wafers. The company has taken the lead in achieving the industrialization of 6-inch and 8-inch silicon wafers in China as well as the technological research and development of the 12-inch process, which strongly supports the development of China's integrated circuit industry. Moreover, its products are exported to the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan China and other regions. These products are distinguished by their strong popularity and influence in domestic and foreign markets.

In January 2018, the company completed the mixed ownership reform. RS Technologies Co., Ltd., the controlling shareholder of the company, is currently the largest semiconductor wafer remanufacturing enterprise in the world, occupying more than 30% of the global market share, and is the world's leading supplier of semiconductor materials. Founded in 1952, China GRINM Group Corporation Limited, an important shareholder of the company, is a research and development institution with strong comprehensive strength in China's non-ferrous metal industry and a high-tech industry cultivation institution. It is also a central enterprise directly managed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.
